Do I need an account to explore the map?

Accepted Answer

No. You can browse the map, scrub the timeline, search entities and read their history with no account at all, from 500 CE to 1800 CE. Creating a free account extends that to 400 CE–1800 CE and adds favourites; Premium unlocks the full 1000 BCE–2026 range.

Are the borders historically accurate?

ATTARIKH is an educational and leisure project, not an academic atlas. Borders and coordinates are approximate reconstructions from historical sources — good for getting a feel for how empires expanded and contracted, not for citing in research. Found something that looks clearly wrong? Use the "Report an error" button on that entity's panel — every report is reviewed.

What languages is ATTARIKH available in?

English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese and Arabic (with full right-to-left layout). Pick a language from the header dropdown, or open the app with e.g. attarikh.fr/?lang=fr.

Why create an account at all?

Accepted Answer

It unlocks a wider timeline (400 CE–1800 CE instead of 500–1800), lets you star entities as favourites, and is required to play the quiz or report a data error — so we can follow up with you by email if needed.

How do I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

Open your profile menu → account settings, or email us — see the Privacy policy for the contact address. We delete your account, favourites and quiz progress; nothing is kept beyond what the law requires (e.g. billing records).

What does Premium unlock?

The full timeline (1000 BCE–2026 CE, instead of 400–1800), unlimited Full HD image exports (free accounts get 5 per day at a lower resolution), the history quiz with XP and achievements, and favourites.

2.99 € per month, or 31.99 € per year (a discount versus paying monthly). Prices shown in the app always reflect the current offer.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every new account gets one free day of full Premium access automatically on signup, no card required. It ends on its own; you won't be charged unless you separately choose to subscribe.

How do I cancel my subscription?

From your profile menu → subscription. You keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for, then it reverts to a free account — no partial refunds, no surprise renewal.

How does the history quiz work?

You're shown a year and asked to identify an entity on the map; correct answers earn XP toward ranks and unlock achievement badges, all saved to your account. It's a Premium feature, and you need to be signed in so your progress persists.

How many free image exports do I get?

Accepted Answer

5 per calendar day (UTC) at up to HD resolution, whether you're signed in or not — Premium removes the daily cap entirely and exports at Full HD.

What is Creative Mode?

A drawing/annotation layer over the map — sketch routes, add markers and captions — so your exported image tells a specific story, not just a plain snapshot of the timeline.

Do you track me or show ads?

No ads, ever. We keep an anonymous, cookieless visit counter (no raw IP stored) to gauge overall traffic. With your explicit consent — you choose, on your first visit or anytime after from this page — we also use Google Analytics for more detailed traffic insight; it never runs before you accept.

Do you sell my data?

Never. We use a small number of providers strictly to run the service (hosting, email, payments) — see the Privacy policy for the full, named list and what each one receives.

I found a historical error — how do I report it?

Accepted Answer

Select the entity, open its panel, and use "Report an error" at the bottom — you can describe the issue, cite a source, and even redraw the border directly on the map for a border correction. Requires a signed-in account so we can follow up.

Which devices and browsers are supported?

Any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). No app to install — it runs entirely in the browser, and the layout adapts to your screen size.
